Asha Kiran
Asha Kiran (Ray of Hope) is a registered Charitable Trust committed to Special Needs Children in India.
This Christian school in Bangalore began with one hearing impaired child being taught in a garage of a private home and has now grown to a teaching staff of 14 both full and part-time, catering for over 60 children with a range of disabilities. 
Asha Kiran opens its doors to children who are hearing impaired, or who suffer from learning problems or are physically disabled. Some of the children are from the poorest sections of Bangalore and are the first generation in their families ever to attend school.
The school accepts Children from all religious backgrounds but maintains a distinct Christian ethos. It has been accepted as a fully accredited institution of the National Open School system and is highly regarded for the quality of its teaching. It receives no government funding and is supported entirely by gifts. Those parents who can afford to pay fees are required to do so.
Because of the special needs of the children who attend Asha Kiran the teacher/children ratio is very low, about 1:8 allowing the teacher to give personal attention to each child. This is one of the reasons for the school's success in drawing the best out of these pupils and equipping them to earn a living and support themselves and their families. Because of its reputation there is a substantial waiting list and the school has plans to move to a purpose built building where more children can be accommodated. The school uniform is provided free of charge by the school so that no child feels disadvantaged.

As well as a full academic curriculum, lessons cover a whole range of physical, creative and practical subjects such as physical education, drawing, painting and music, reading and cookery.
Mothers are also trained so that they in turn can instruct their children.
Asha Kiran makes no secret of the fact that this is a Christian School existing for the glory of God and declaring His grace in a needy world.
